Procedure Information

This section provides general information about procedures offered by the John Flynn Colorectal Centre.

Direct Access Colonoscopy

Your GP has requested that you undergo colonoscopy without consultation first. We are able to offer this service to patients having colonoscopy for a limited range of indications including previous polyps or a positive faecal occult blood test.
If you have any further questions or concerns please make an appointment to see your specialist prior to your procedure.

Transanal Haemorrhoidal Dearterialisation (THD)

THD uses a purpose built ultrasound probe to locate the arteries to be accurately sutured to reduce the inflow of blood into the haemorrhoids. The surgery is usually performed as a day only procedure under general anaesthetic. The operation takes around about forty minutes and most patients are discharged about three hours later.
